Frequently Asked Questions:
Understanding Fire Classification
There are different types of fire classification which can be simply described as:
(E) – INTEGRITY: The ability of a component or construction to maintain the integrity of the element on one side only, without spreading the fire to a non-heated side as a result of penetration of flames or hot gases.
(EI) – INTEGRITY & INSULATION: The ability of a component or construction to maintain the integrity of the element on one side only, without spreading the fire as a result of a significant heat flow from the heated side to the non-heated side.
Can I buy my own glass?
No, to ensure compliance and traceability all frames are supplied glazed with fire-rated glass which conforms to our certification and test reports.
Can you manufacture any size of window?
Fire-rated windows are restricted by size and design and can only be manufactured as fixed panes. Call our sales team on 01695 732525 to discuss your requirements.
How do I install fire windows?
Installers should be trained by a recognised scheme for fire products, for example, FIRAS.
Can I have openers in my window?
No, all fire-rated windows must be manufactured as fixed panes.
What’s the difference between a fire window and fire rated window.
Standard windows can in many cases be designed to provide an escape route in the event of a fire. These egress windows should provide an unobstructed openable area that is at least 0.33m2 with no dimension being less than 450mm. A clear unobstructed opening 450mm wide by 750mm high would meet these criteria.
Fire-rated windows are designed to prevent the passage of fire from one location to another for a period of 30 or 60 minutes.
Will you deliver my frames?
Nationwide delivery is available.
Do you provide evidence of conformity?
